NH Collection, Eindhoven

Travelling to Eindhoven for a Lighting Event at Dutch Design Week 2024, I was expecting my stay at the NH Collection to be all business. That turned into into an unexpected pleasure in the blink of an eye when I was crowned Guest of the Day, and upgraded to a fabulous suite at no extra charge!

I’d chosen the NH Collection Eindhoven Centre for it’s convenient location; the Groene Toren (Green Tower) is just a short walk from Eindhoven station with abundant rail and bus connections. It’s also located on the edge of the piazza and Heuvel Galerie shopping centre with a fabulous choice of retail stores, restaurants and bars. Great if you have the time to hang out with friends and colleagues. or fancy a bit of shopping. The Philips Museum is also just around the corner, and The Philips Stadion, home to PSV Eindhoven, is five minutes walk up the road. All great reasons to visit this wonderful little city.

The 5-star NH Collection hotel has been awarded the brand’s superior rating in recognition of its high standard of facilities and customer service. It’s apparent from the moment you glide through the revolving doors on Vestdijk. On my visit, nothing was too much trouble, from the complimentary glass of prosecco I was offered at the check-in desk, to the private cab they called for me to ensure I arrived on time to my event in the Strijp S area of the city.

The free upgrade was unexpected and fabulous.

I opened the door to a corner suite with an absolutely enormous bed, a dedicated sitting area, and a stylish bathroom. The furnishings and fixtures were cool and contemporary from the Nespresso coffee machine to the touch-controlled desk lighting. It was also easy on the eye. A relaxing colour palette of whites and greys, punctuated by a single, bright scarlet swivel chair in the corner of the room . An inviting statement piece that would have been a fantastic spot for some quiet reading, had the incredible views from the window not been quite so distracting!

Reclining on the huge bed I was able to enjoy uninterrupted views down Stationsplein to the railway station in the distance, and across the rooftops of the Pathé cinema to the east of the hotel. Impressive enough during the day, the view from my room was transformed after dark with the lights of the city creating a truly magical ambience that took five-star luxury to the next level. Needless to say, I didn’t close the curtains.

After a blissful night’s sleep in the gigantic, five-star bed with premium mattress, the rain-effect shower was the cherry on the icing on the cake. The lightly-fragranced shower essentials and immaculate white towels only added to the sense of luxury and wellbeing. Despite this being a one-day business trip, I felt totally pampered, thoroughly rested, and more than ready for breakfast on the thirteen floor.

Sharing the same corner of the Green Tower as my fabulous suite, the elevated views from the rooftop restaurant and bar were even more spectacular. I found a seat by the floor to ceiling window and took my time over a delicious buffet breakfast. Fresh fruit and yoghurt, followed by avocado and bacon on sourdough with scrambled eggs on the side. Several cups of strong coffee allowed me to stretch out the experience and watch the sunrise for as long as possible before finally checking out and heading for a client’s office in Strijpe S.

Had I been staying for more than one night at the NH Collection, I’m not sure I would have received the free upgrade. Who knows how these things work (as the concierge at Le Petit Hotel in Montreal once said to me when I queried a similar upgrade. Which I’m pretty certain was paid for by my Quebecoise friend. Merci beaucoup, Lucien). What I do know, is that as hotels go, this one is fabulous and I really hope I get the chance to stay there again soon.
