How did you become a solo traveller?

After my 30-year marriage ended in Australia, the Universe granted my dearest wish to live in Paris. I am now celebrating 10 years of living, laughing and loving my life in the City of Light and embracing solo adventures whenever I have the desire to take off and explore new places.

What’s the best thing you brought with you on this trip?

Well…anyone who knows me will say Deauville was the perfect place for me to spend my ME time. My dad and uncle were commercial fishermen in the South Island (New Zealand), so I grew up on fresh delicious-ness from the sea. I brought my appetite for seafood with me – and my love of OYSTERS!

What do you wish you’d packed?

I’m a Capricorn by nature, so I actually packed very well.

How are you spending your days?

My days have been planned around a having a delicious breakfast in the hotel, then walking around to discover the freshest and best oysters there are! Oh, and a spot of SOLDES (sale) shopping – lucky me!

What has been your best excursion / visit?

I went to the markets in both Deauville and Trouville-sur-Mer (Saturday/Sunday). The friendliness of the vendors was really nice and I managed to score a couple of bargains too!

Best tip for solo travellers?

Actually, I was only thinking about this today. I really feel it’s important to give yourself permission to enjoy and embrace your own company. And to look for the little things in life that bring you JOY.

Star rating out of 5?

Definitely 5 stars from me.

How would you sum up this solo trip in one sentence?

OYSTERS! But seriously…taking time out to breathe in the sea air, see the sea and watch the waves crashing on the beach has got to be the best thing ever. It’s a complete reset and now I’m ready to return to Paris HAPPY – until next time!
