All aboard – San Francisco

Hawaiian Islands Cruise from San Francisco

Cable cars. The Golden Gate Bridge. The fog! San Francisco is one the most vibrant and cosmopolitan cities in America, with a colourful history to match. Zig-zag your way down Lombard Street, visit the iconic Painted Ladies, explore China Town, North Beach and Nob Hill. Or take the ferry across the water to learn the fascinating story of Alcatraz. Then stop off at Fisherman’s Warf and enjoy some of the best seafood I guarantee you have ever tasted. What a great city to start your adventure to Hawaii.

I did all of these. Plus I took advantage of the free bike hire at my hotel and cycled across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, then caught the ferry back to Pier 37. What an incredible experience!

A word of caution: In 2022, San Francisco was rated the 8th most expensive city in the world*. On my trip, a standard 0.5 litre bottle of water cost $5. I paid $25 for a bowl of pasta and more than $60 for a full breakfast. Budget for spending big bucks!!!
